Polenta helps households plan dinners, recipes, and grocery lists. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

“Polenta,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Oclo Labs AB, a Swedish private limited company that provides the Polenta mobile app, website, and related services. Oclo Labs AB is the data controller for personal information processed under this Privacy Policy. You can contact us at hello@polenta.app.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Polenta, we may collect:

• Account information, such as your email address, name, sign-in method, and account identifiers.
• Household and meal planning information, such as household preferences, favorite meals, dislikes, dietary restrictions, allergy notes, routines, recipes, meal plans, pantry items, and grocery lists.
• Content you provide, such as notes, recipe text, feedback, support messages, and other information you choose to enter.
• App and device information, such as device type, operating system, app version, diagnostics, crash reports, logs, and approximate region.
• Website information, such as pages visited, browser type, referrer, and basic analytics or cookie data if we use those tools on our website.
• Payment information. If Polenta offers paid plans through Apple in-app purchase, Apple processes payments and provides us limited subscription status information. We do not receive your full payment card details from Apple.

3. Local storage and sync

Polenta is designed to keep meal planning fast and useful on your device. Some information may be stored locally on your device. If you create an account, enable sync, or use features that require server processing, relevant information may be sent to our servers so we can back up your data, sync it across devices, and provide the service.

4. AI-assisted features

Polenta may use AI providers to help generate meal ideas, recipes, planning suggestions, and grocery lists. To provide those features, we may send relevant meal-planning context — such as preferences, restrictions, ingredients, recipes, and prior instructions — to AI service providers. We aim to send only the information needed to provide the feature.

AI-generated results may be inaccurate or incomplete. Always review recipes, ingredient lists, allergy information, cooking instructions, and food safety guidance before relying on them.

5. How we use information

We use information to:

• provide, personalize, maintain, and improve Polenta;
• create meal ideas, recipes, grocery lists, and planning suggestions;
• sync and back up account data;
• provide support and respond to feedback;
• monitor reliability, debug issues, prevent abuse, and protect the service;
• communicate with you about the app, updates, and important notices; and
• comply with legal obligations.

6. Legal bases for processing

If GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar laws apply, our legal bases may include performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving Polenta, your consent where we ask for it, and compliance with legal obligations. If you choose to enter allergy, dietary, or other potentially sensitive information, we process it only to provide the features you request and subject to applicable legal requirements.

7. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers that help us operate Polenta, such as hosting, database, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, customer support, email, subscription, and AI infrastructure providers. These providers are allowed to use information only to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by law.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to prevent fraud or abuse, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

8. Dietary, allergy, and household information

You may choose to store dietary restrictions, allergies, health-related preferences, or household details in Polenta. Please only enter information that you are comfortable using with the service. Polenta is intended for adults managing household meals and is not directed to children.

9. Data retention

We keep information for as long as needed to provide Polenta, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and maintain backups. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account unless we need to retain it for legal, security, backup, or legitimate business reasons.

10. Your choices and rights

You may request access, correction, export, deletion, restriction, or objection to certain processing of your personal information by contacting us at hello@polenta.app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under laws such as GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, or similar laws.

If you are in Sweden or the EU/EEA, you may also lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY) or your local data protection authority.

If the app offers account deletion in settings, you should use that flow to start deletion. You can also visit our account deletion page for instructions.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. International processing

We are based in Sweden, and we and our service providers may process information in Sweden, the EU/EEA, the United States, and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by updating the effective date, posting a notice, or providing an in-app notice.
